Japan’s New Alliance to Reinvent Manufacturing for a Sustainable Future|Japan ESG Matters
Konnichiwa, and welcome to
ESG Japan Daily. I’m Teodor. Today, we spotlight a recent initiative aimed
at transforming how Japan’s manufacturing sector tackles sustainability — a solution that’s
circular by design and collaborative by nature. Five companies — including Mitsui Sumitomo
Finance & Leasing, Amita, ABeam Consulting, Circular Links, and GX Concierge — have joined
forces to launch a new initiative called Circular Co-Evolution, or CCE for short.
So what is CCE? It’s a total solution designed
to help manufacturers shift from linear to circular business models — not with
piecemeal fixes, but with end-to-end support. The message is clear: Sustainability isn’t a
silo. It’s a business model transformation. Three Core Takeaways:
First, CCE delivers support across three stages:
Planning and conceptualisation Transformation and execution
Operational improvement It helps companies rethink their entire
value chain — from reuse and recycling, to supply chain design, traceability, funding,
compliance, and internal restructuring. Second, the approach is tailored.
This is not one-size-fits-all. Each project is custom-built around the company’s
existing position and goals, whether they’re starting from scratch or scaling up.
Third, the consortium plans to serve 100 manufacturers in the next three years,
focusing on companies for whom resource circularity and decarbonisation are becoming
increasingly important management issues. But here’s what makes it different:
Each member brings a specialised function: Mitsui Sumitomo brings finance
and digital asset solutions. Amita helps develop circular supply
chains and runs proof-of-concept pilots. ABeam leads on digital transformation
and operating model shifts. Circular Links provides systems for
waste management and circular logistics. GX Concierge focuses on ESG strategy, carbon
tracking, and sustainability planning. So if you’re a manufacturer wondering how to
start your circular economy journey — or how to scale it — this is a one-stop ecosystem that
could support changes to your business model. Here’s your ESG reasoning question of the day:
If your business had to build a new circular supply chain from the ground up — who would you
need at the table? Would you lead with finance, tech, materials, or customer engagement?
And don’t forget system thinking — how will your upstream design decisions shape
downstream recovery, reuse, and regeneration? Thanks for tuning in to ESG Japan Daily, we
don’t just cover the news. We aim to explain strategies relevant to evolving business models.
