For several months, Japan has been moving in a more nationalist and conservative direction. The shift has been fuelled by economic challenges at home and growing regional tensions with China. The country’s new ultra-conservative prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, is expected to accelerate this agenda, with plans to tighten immigration policies and strengthen Japan’s defence posture. A report by Adam Hancock, Alexis Bregere and Mélodie Sforza.

  1. Japanese'ness is what makes Japan unique and it should be defended and promoted…
    there is a middle ground.
Japan needs some immigration but all immigrants should be made to show proficiency in Japanese, which shows hard word and respect for the culture.

    The Greaters for the Greats.

  3. No one wants to end up like France and the UK and most other parts of the EU. Literally only Poland is the still sane one left.

  4. his ambitious and great but Japanese couples have to pump 2 to 3 babies for next 10 years to survive this decade because most of the population is above old above 50 and no sign of changing it they should address this problem if not it will be end of Japanese civilisation like Korean

  5. You call invading, killing and raping liberating China? Every 80 to a 100 years is the same thing around the world. Democracy turns to Nationalism turns to Fascism vs Communism you get War! “History Remembers The Battle, But Forgets The Blood That Has Been Spilled”.

  6. Japan is literally the OLDEST country in the world with birth rates well well well below replacement levels. Without immigration you're looking at absolute economic collapse. This is a certainty, not a theory. 2026 Japan is not what it was in 1950.

  7. My island has been physically and mentally isolated from the rest of the world compared to countries like France. There are good sides to being located on the edge of the continent, but we must admit we are not good at handling diversity.

  8. Janpan is aggressor in WWII. Japanese deny its war crime in WWII and worship Class A war criminals of WWII nationally. Export offensive weapons and discuss to abandon no nuclear weapon principles are not defensive. Claim to use force to intervene Chinese Sovereignty is not defensive.

  9. We grow rice in Japan. All of the foreigners in our area work in agriculture. Most are women actually. They keep to themselves and they work hard.

  10. The US defeated Imperial Japan (massacring mostly civilians when they didn't have to) – but the US then immediately turned around and reincorporated those imperialists into the new government and went to war against communists in Korea – Japan and Korea were not permitted to heal properly and learn their lessons – and the US has basically ruled over Japan and occupied both territories for 80 years — in the west we are not permitted to be critical of the toxic japanese political and economic culture because Washington is satisfied with it

  11. This group has existed for a long time and is not a recent phenomenon. What this channel fails to mention is that the groups that have grown the most in Japan are far-left groups that disturb even ordinary people.

  12. If Japan’s birth rate continues to decline and immigration is banned, its population will face a severe, irreversible collapse. The nation will experience an extreme population contraction, plummeting from around 124 million to an estimated 87 million by 2070, and slashing further to roughly 63 million by 2100. Without foreign workers to replenish the labor pool, Japan will transform into a hyper-aged society where over 40% of citizens are seniors. This demographic spiral will trigger critical labour shortages, crushing economic productivity and placing an unsustainable pension burden on a dwindling youth base. Sayanora Japan.

  13. There is a problem of labor shortage in Japan that directly leads to an immigration problem, and it has to be addressed rationally. Instead, Japan is reacting hysterically, but be my guest, Japan; keep the low-wage foreign workers out. The 70-80-year-old Japanese can go back to the workforce to fill the void, while their adult parasite children stay home to read manga and spend money buying idol merchandise. Maybe then they will stop blaming the foreigners for their miserable lives.

  14. “Nationalism is good. It means one puts your nation first.” That’s deep and so profound it should be made into a bumper sticker, if it isn’t already.

  15. Japan should take a lesson from Germany. It has never properly apologized for all the atrocities committed by its predecessors. Countless people lost their lives because of those actions.

  16. The yen continues to depreciate, manufacturing is shrinking, and prices are rising. Whenever the Japanese economy begins to fall into a quagmire that cannot be repaired through economic means, militarism resurfaces, hoping to save the country through expansion, intimidation, and colonization. Japan's far-right is one of the most dangerous groups in the world.
