Japan Erects Wall Blocking Mount Fuji View to Ward off Tourists | Vantage with Palki Sharma

Mount Fuji is Japan’s highest mountain. But soon, its view will be blocked. Japan is erecting an 8-foot wall to ward off tourists. Because tourists misbehave and overcrowd a popular photo spot near Mount Fuji. Japan is witnessing “overtourism” amid a travel boom. 33 million people are expected to visit Japan this year. In a first, Japan saw more than three million tourists in march. But this nation is hardly the only one. Tourism will break records globally in 2024. It will add $11.1 trillion to the global economy. But at the same time, overtourism will create an array of problems including overcrowding, infrastructure problems, and soaring housing costs. So many countries are battling overtourism with over-the-top solutions. Palki Sharma tells you how.

  1. It's the town council responsible. Overcrowding and dangerous for people. Build a purpose-built viewing deck years ago would have prevented all this.

  2. we need that for himalayans, most of the domestic tourist coming from plane areas have zero manners. All they know is to destroy the beauty of these mountains.

  3. Government is pushing for tourism in Japan, by building a wall in front of mount Fuji so that the tourists can not see it? They want more tourists but not too many? 😂😂 Are you sure you and I know what they really want? You can not choose tourists or condition their behaviour. Either you want them or you don't want them. Which one is it?

  4. Well, that’s typical Japanese! They are very prejudice, I witnessed this multiple times. Since tourism is generating big business in Japan. It’s about time to open their doors to internationalism. On the other side the Japanese-population keeps on declining and the birth rate is dropping. Japan in the next decade is no longer a homogenous society. The end of the era!

  5. Japan don't need tourist, remember that they are more happy without them during the pandemic except some businesses directly tied to tourism. Get the idea, they don't even like foreign workers, its one of the worst countries to work as a foreigner. They dont even want to learn English for a long time. If they want to control tourists why not use the police or volunteer groups, restrict tourist visas, they have lots of military too which they can use to control the crowd, and we don't have any war yet for their proper use 😊.

  6. There goes her hypocritcy, how friendly is india ? Rape tourist? Pickpockets everywhere ? Those counties listed by this woman, you should get legal suit against her.

  7. You should capt the entry of tourist only by batch. So everyone can experience the best and more solem . I love tourist they bring joy to us and excitement their energy make us do better . But yes. Nobody stops you to travel but let s bring and show respect and thanks to the hospitality of the respected nation and place that welcomes us.

  8. 😂 whose loss?? The Japanese economy is slowing down and now people are becoming more and more closed to the world by the day. This will only hurt their economy more. If only Japan concentrate this much on their population problems, they would still exist after 100 yrs.

  9. Well, if tourists don't behave as per local customs, then it's totally deserved. Seriously, travellers should consider the sentiments of the locals while travelling. After all, there's the saying, "When in Rome, act like Romans."

  10. Who are making those predictions? When families are struggling to pay their bills? Yes, travelling need to be exclusive again. Yes i know it a classist view but when you see how run down tourists make some areas, I am all for it.

  11. Your end msg was so apt – choose wisely ❤😊
It's required coz going to those Countries just for the perfect shot is so overrated.
I came back from Japan in Apr and truly it is over crowded with Tourists. All the famous places had long queues n shopping was like being in any crowded markets of India 😅😂

  12. Japan and these other mountain countries knows or expects that their erupts is coming soon and volcanoes are reawakening. Just look at Iceland and Indonesia volcanos not to mention Mt. Etna. It seems that " Rim of Fire " party is gonna more events soon!!!😮😮😮😮😮😮😅😮

  13. Nice narrative, however list of countries who are unwelcoming is erroneous. Neither Indonesia or Bhutan are unfriendly to tourists. I go to Indonesia twice a year and given its vast size, still feel it is unexplored, not overrun and locals are really friendly. Bhutan has so few tourists due to the SDF (tourist tax) of 200 $ PER DAY for non SAARC visitors that it will never be overrun. The second set of "tourist unfriendly " countries are not unfriendly, just a lot more dangerous….. very different from being unfriendly due to over tourism.

Among countries to visit, need to add Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Oman…. all underrated and beautiful.

  14. How do Canada want more tourists when they are passing these retarded laws. I was surprised that the Philippines on the list with want more tourists instead of being on the list with Thailand. 05-02-24

  15. Google should add an auto suggest to alert a traveller when he is about to book for his destination. Just like it shares data of crowded places.
