Why the U.S. Bailout Won’t Save Japan

The U.S. may be able to stabilize Japan’s markets in the short term, but it can’t solve Japan’s biggest problem: demographics.

Japan has one of the world’s oldest populations and one of the lowest birth rates. Fewer young workers mean slower economic growth, while decades of government debt and ultra-low interest rates have only delayed the underlying problem—not fixed it.

In geopolitics and economics, structural problems can’t be solved with more debt.

  1. They have always refused to allow immigrants to become citizens. There is thousands of yrs of history on their backs & are culturally rooted in the distant past. Also, motherhood is a lonely place & has no appeal. Most jobs are in cities so population is not spread out. Very very expensive to have a family there.
