The World Laughed at Israel’s Canal for 60 Years. Now Strait of Hormuz Is Closed & Everyone Wants It
The world laughed at Israel’s canal, but now they are begging for it. In 1963, Israel proposed the Ben Gurion Canal: a $55 billion megaproject cutting through the Negev Desert to connect the Red Sea to the Mediterranean. For 60 years, the world called it an impossible dream.
But as of 2026, the Strait of Hormuz is closed. Twenty-five percent of the world’s oil is blocked. The global economy is paralyzed. Suddenly, the impossible dream is the only way out. From the terrifying economic math of the Hormuz closure to the quiet diplomatic phone calls happening between Israel and the Gulf States, this is the story of how the Ben Gurion Canal just went from a forgotten blueprint to the most urgent infrastructure project on Earth.
In this episode of Grand Structures, we investigate:
The Perfect Storm: Why the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is a $110 trillion global disaster.
The Ben Gurion Canal: How Israeli engineers designed a 293-kilometer route to bypass the Middle East’s deadliest chokepoints.
The Desperate Coalition: Why countries like Japan, India, and South Korea suddenly need this canal to survive.
The Final Obstacle: How the shifting geopolitics of 2026 finally made the $55 billion price tag worth it.

It'll be nice when we can charge all of the racist genocidal Neo-Nazi terrorist loving European countries three times the amount to go through😅 I know that's not how an international shipping works and I know they don't charge and all that stuff but I really want to I can live in my dream of being able to charge European Nazi terrorist States billions of dollars extra just to come through Israel😅
It's also going to help all the friendly neighborhood Muslim countries like taking a benefit greatly out of all of this
Seems like alot of time & money would be saved if there was an international military force setup to protect Hormuz. Armed & staffed by all the big powers (US, China, Russia, India). 2 Axis power, 2 Allied.
